How are Altair suitcases designed?
The design of an Altair suitcase starts from one simple idea: to make a product that stays with you for years, without compromising on durability, looks or ease of use.
We chose aluminium, a material with a long history in premium travel — for its toughness and its ability to stand up to the real conditions of transport. Unlike more flexible materials, aluminium gives you a rigid, stable structure that is exceptionally reliable against impact, pressure and repeated handling.
Every suitcase is thought through down to the detail:
- The wheels are built to run quietly and smoothly, even on uneven surfaces.
- The handles give you a firm, long-lasting grip.
- The whole structure is reinforced to hold its shape over the long term.
We don’t want to design a suitcase that only impresses on the day you buy it, but one that stays reliable, practical and elegant after many journeys.
Why did you choose aluminium?
Aluminium is a material apart.
It is used wherever reliability is critical: transport, aviation, industry. In luggage it counts as one of the highest standards.
Its greatest advantage is structural strength. Where other materials absorb an impact by deforming invisibly, aluminium keeps its rigidity and protects what is inside the suitcase.
But beyond its technical properties, aluminium also has an aesthetic dimension all of its own. Unlike conventional materials, it does not stay unchanged. It evolves, develops a patina and shifts with use. It is precisely that evolution that gives it its premium character.
Choosing an aluminium suitcase does not mean choosing something temporary or disposable — it means choosing an object built for longevity and permanence.
Is it normal for the suitcase to pick up marks?
Yes — in fact it is in the nature of aluminium.
Over time your suitcase develops marks: scratches, abrasion or slight changes to the surface. These come above all from travelling in the hold, where luggage is handled hard.
These marks are not manufacturing defects. They are the normal result of using a raw, hard-wearing material. Unlike plastic cases that try to hide wear, aluminium owns it.
Over time every suitcase becomes unique. It reflects the journeys you have made, the places you have passed through and the experiences you have gathered. That is exactly what gives it its character.
Are your suitcases tough?
Yes.
Our suitcases are built to stand up to the real conditions of travel: baggage handling at the airport, pressure in the hold and frequent moving about.
Aluminium provides a stable, protective structure, even in demanding environments. Every component is chosen to deliver the best possible durability over the long term.
As with any heavily used product, marks of use can appear. They do not, however, affect either the strength of the suitcase or the protection it gives.
How heavy are the suitcases?
We have worked to find the right balance between strength and comfort.
Aluminium is naturally tougher than many other materials, which brings a certain density with it. Even so, we have refined the construction so that the weight stays manageable for everyday use.
The result: a suitcase light enough to handle comfortably, while keeping a solid, reassuring structure.
